Who is Mālama Solar?
The Hawaiian solar company with local crew members and local priorities in mind
Mālama means “to care for.” When founders Chris and Rachel Ah Sue formed the company, they wanted a name that reflected not only their connection to their Hawaiian home, but also our duty – our kuleana – to care for the planet. Everywhere you go on our islands you’ll see the phrase Mālama ‘Āina—the Hawaiian value that if you care for the land, the land will care for you.
What Makes Mālama Solar Special?
Mālama Solar is a Hawaii solar company founded entirely to be different. You can count on us to provide a quality experience, to be transparent from day one, and to stick by your side through any questions you have. Our 5-step process will guide you through permits, designs, customization, and installation.
Solar for Hawai'i
Our business is locally owned in Honolulu, with local crew members who value our shared community. That local connection is a matter of pride for us. Not only do we want to help make Hawaii greener through our daily business operations, but we also look for ways to stay connected to our community, including participating in local community events and holding cultural awareness days with our team members.
Meet the Founders
Chris and Rachel Ah Sue have deep roots in Hawaii. Rachel was born and raised on O’ahu, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Hawaii at Mānoa. Chris grew up in Southern California, visiting his extended family in Hawaii from a young age. After college at BYU, Chris moved to O’ahu where he and Rachel began their family. They feel blessed to be raising their three children on the islands they love.
