Designed with modern roofing materials in mind, this system addresses a growing challenge in the industry: bonded asphalt shingles. Instead of prying shingles apart like traditional methods, the HUG® allows us to work with the roof as-is, helping preserve its integrity while speeding up the installation process.
One of the standout features of the HUG® is its advanced, multi-layered waterproofing approach. The system is built around the UltraGrip™ base, which combines foam and mastic to create a tight, conforming seal against the shingle surface.
This is reinforced by a cast-aluminum Halo with a raised perimeter, forming a durable barrier that helps keep water out. Because the seal naturally adapts to the contours of the roof, it fills in small gaps and variations in the shingles, giving homeowners added confidence in long-term protection.
At Malama Solar, efficiency matters just as much as quality. The HUG® works in tandem with IronRidge’s RD Structural Screw, allowing us to secure mounts directly to the rafter, the deck, or both. This streamlined approach removes several traditional steps—no pilot holes, no shingle prying, and in most cases, no additional sealants required.
